Synopsis

Karan Kapoor (Saif Ali Khan
) is a struggling comic artist on his way to US. Hum and Tum are his comic characters.

On the plane to the States he meets Rhea Prakash (Rani Mukerji
). Both of them disagree on every aspect of life and after spending a day in Amsterdam, where Karan kisses Rhea to confirm their friendship, they board the plane again and separate in US.

During the years, they meet several times: in the US, where they both study (later Karan's mother (Rati Agnihotri
) is Rhea`s wedding planner), in Paris, where Karan is supossed to write his book and Rhea still mourns her dead husband, and back in India where Karan tries to matchmake Rhea with his best friend, because he does not consider himself as worthy of her. They spend a night together (though in Indian releases, this scene was cut) and, suspecting they have ruined their relationship forever, Karan leaves Rhea, realizes his mistake and tries to find her, but she has disappeared.

He writes his book about Hum and Tum, but essentially, the story is his and Rhea's. She comes back to him after having read the book and finally, he confesses his love for her and they get married.
