100 Beast Squadron Growl Ranger (百獣戦隊ガオレンジャー, literally read as Hyakujuu Sentai Gaorenjaa) was TOEI Company Limited's 25th production of the Super Sentai television series. Its footage was used in Power Rangers: Wild Force.

Plot

The series follows the adventure of five people chosen by the Power Animals to become the Gaorangers to defeat the sinister Org Tribe, led by the Grand Dukes, in a war that started & paused from 1000 years ago.

Characters

Gaorangers

The Gaoranger during the series and some of the movies refer to each other by color rather than name. Hurricanger Vs. Gaoranger is the only production where the Gaoranger refer to each other by name.

Kakeru Shishi (獅子走 Shishi Kakeru) / GaoRed (ガオレッド): Nickname, "Blazing Lion". He was chosen by GaoLion to become leader of the Gaorangers. Before Kakeru became a Gaoranger, he was a veterinarian, and loved animals, especially his golden retriever Choco. Kakeru had the empathic ability to reach out to animals, he understands them. He thought he could do the same with Orgs, but discovered he couldn't since they were without souls. He is in charge of forming the upper body in the Gaoranger mecha formations.

Gaku Washio (鷲尾岳 Washio Gaku) / Gao Yellow (ガオイエロー): Nickname, "Noble Eagle". At first, Gaku was very humorless, he was upset that Kakeru has been chosen leader, and not him. As time went on, Gaku opened up to everyone, and became especially close to Kakeru, often teasing him good naturedly. Gaku is the one who insists that the Gaoranger refer to each other by color and not use their personal names as a nod to his military training as a pilot. He is in charge of forming any leftover parts for the Gaoranger mecha formations.

Kai Samezu (鮫津海 Samezu Kai) / Gao Blue (ガオブルー): Nickname, "Surging Shark". An energentic, and suspiciously playful guy. He doesn't like being called him a kid. He is in charge of forming the right arm for the Gaoranger mecha formations. He is also an accomplished bowler.

Soutarou Ushigome (牛込草太郎 Ushigome Sōtarō) / GaoBlack (ガオブラック): Nickname, "Iron Bison". A gentle soul who came a Gaoranger before Kakeru joined the team. He is in charge of forming the Lower Body for the Gaoranger mecha formations.

Sae Taiga (大河冴 Taiga Sae) / GaoWhite (ガオホワイト): Nickname, "Belle Tiger". She is an incredibly level-headed young woman. Her father runs a dojo and taught her various combat techniques. She is in charge of forming the Left Arm for the Gaoranger Mecha Formations.

Shirogane (大神月麿) / GaoSilver (ガオシルバー): Nickname, "Shining Wolf". 1,000 years ago, Gao God was defeated by the particularly dangerous Grand Duke Hyakumaru, a fusion of an 100 Orgs. In desperation, Shirogane donned the cursed mask of Loki, which gave him the extra power they'd need to defeat the mighty Org. He got three magical Power Animals (Wolf, Alligator and Hammerhead Shark) and combine them with his own companion. Despite frantic warning from their priestess, Murasaki, that the mask would possess him, he did it. He lasted long enough to defeat the Org. Then the mask transformed him into Loki. He begged his former companions to stop him while he still had a vestige of control. He was released by Ura centires later to destroy the present day Gaorangers of present-time. But once freed of the mask, he became GaoSilver & helped in any way he could. He also adopted a modern name for himself, Oogami Tsukumaro.

Help

Tetomu: The Shrine maiden of the Animairum who serves as mentor to the current Gaoranger team, succeeding the role from her great-grandmother, Murasaki

Futaro: A mysterious boy that the Gaorangers befriend. Later he is revealed to be the human form of the reborn Gao God. It turned that as GaoRed & GaoSilver were fighting Ura, the other four were ressurected when awakening GaoFalcon. But the four unknownably ressurected Gao God as well. However at one point he took the Power Animals (Except for GaoSilvers') away from the Gaorangers, deeming that humanity does not deserve their help because humans are wasteful creatures and only pollute the earth. But later he had a change of heart and returned the Power Animals and then left. He later showed up in the finale to help against the revived Grand Duke Orgs.

Murasaki: Tetomu's great-grandmother who servered as the mentor to the original Gaoranger team.
