Movies - I Wake Up Screaming

I Wake Up Screaming is a black-and-white 1942
suspense films starring Betty Grable. The film is an example of the film noir style in the early stages of the cycle.

Plot

A young promoter is accused of the murder of Vicky Lynn, a young actress he "discovered" as a waitress while out with ex-actor Robin Ray and gossip columnist Larry Evans. He hides out with Vicky's sister Jill, whom he is falling in love with, but is eventually captured. An obsessive police officer knows the man is innocent but because the evidence is completely incriminating, he persues him anyway. Promoter Frankie escapes and tries to find the murder himself.

He finds that one of Vicky's neighbors was obsessed with the now dead woman and even finds a man that confesses the killing.

Trivia

  • The story was made into a film again as Vicki
    in 1953.
  • I Wake Up Screaming was previewed for the press on October 16, 1941 under the title The Hot Spot.
