The Impossible Mission Force, IMF, is the fictional intelligence agency of the U.S. government from the American television series Mission: Impossible
and series of films. Its secret agents are sent on covert missions to tackle the dangerous world of counterterrorism and international crime. They operate under nonofficial cover status and if captured or killed the U.S. government will disavow any knowledge of their actions.

Although in the television show, it was implied to be an independent agency, in the films the IMF is apparently a black ops division of the Central Intelligence Agency.
