| Inglorious Bastards is expected to be the next feature film written and directed by Quentin Tarantino after he completes his segment of the anthology film Grind House. The title is taken from a 1977 movie by the Italian director Enzo G. Castellari called Quel maledetto treno blindato, known in the United States with the title Inglorious Bastards. Tarantino's film is not thought to be a remake, but more of an homage to the earlier film, as well as The Dirty Dozen, The Great Escape and other war movies. In an interview with Vanity Fair, Tarantino revealed that one of the projects he worked on in the six years in between the releases of Jackie Brown and Kill Bill was trying to hammer Inglorious Bastards down as a script. Instead of a conventional 100- to 200-page script, he wrote a six-hundred page work of three feature-length parts. In a September, 2005 interview Tarantino said that while Inglorious Bastards will "probably" be his next feature, the screenplay was at least a year from being ready , so it is not known whether the film will be shortened, turned into a series, or released as a two- or three-part film, like Kill Bill. Inglorious Bastards will star Michael Madsen as Babe Buchinsky. In May, 2005, Internet blogs reported that Madsen had stated that several major stars, including Tim Roth, Adam Sandler and Eddie Murphy had been attached to the project, as had Bo Svenson, who starred in the 1977 film . However, the same blog article also reported that Madsen said filming would "definitely" start in 2005. In a September, 2005 interview with MTV Tarantino denied that anyone besides Madsen had been cast, and stated that all other casting reports are nothing more than speculation . Set in World War II, the story revolves around a group of soldiers on their way to be executed, when they get the chance of a reprieve. Tarantino has described them as "not your normal hero types that are thrown into a big deal in World War II."
