Movies - Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius

Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius is a 2001
computer-animated movie. It was produced by Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies
. It was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, and its plotline concerns Jimmy and friends having a good time at a newly-opened amusement park and then on the town (after seeing that their parents have apparently gone to Florida), and later on (after finding out where they've really gone) having to rescue their parents from egg-shaped aliens voiced by Martin Short
and Patrick Stewart
. The film was produced using off-the-shelf software by DNA Productions
of Dallas, Texas.

The Yokians (including King Goobot and Ooblar) don't appear again until The Egg-pire Strikes Back
.

The film grossed around $80m in North America, and was followed by the television series The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius the following fall on Nickelodeon.

Symbolism

The soundtrack features a cover of "Parents Just Don't Understand" originally by DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince, which may or may not be connected to the undertone of the film (and the later produced series). Perhaps the film (and spinoff series) was created in order to reassure the network's target audience that everyone involved with both the film, show and network "knows what it's like" to have (among other things) parents who are oblivious to some special talent the viewers have (Jimmy's parents reprimanding him despite seeing events involving their prodigy son that one would not normally see everyday, usually involving Jimmy's inventions), as well as peers who make fun, call names and tease because of said talent (Cindy referring to Jimmy as "Nerd-tron"). Hence, the network perhaps also wants to appeal to those viewers with special talents who just want to live a normal life, and/or who want to be accepted for who they are and not their special talents (an example of this is some of Jimmy's inventions failing on him). None of this can be confirmed, however.
