Movies - John Connor

John Connor is a major character in the Terminator
series of movies. The role was played by Edward Furlong
(and Michael Edwards (III) in the opening future scenes) in the second film, Terminator 2: Judgment Day
, and by Nick Stahl
in Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines
.

Attempted Assassinations

Connor is, in the future, leader of the human Tech-Com
forces in their war against the machines led by Skynet
. Because of this, the machines repeatedly send back "Terminator" cyborgs to either prevent his birth or kill him in his youth. In The Terminator
, Connor is not yet born. The original Terminator cyborg is sent back to kill Sarah Connor
, Connor's mother, before his conception. In Terminator 2: Judgment Day
, the action centers on young John Connor (Edward Furlong
) as a pre-adolescent. In Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines
, Connor, now a young man, is played by Nick Stahl
.

May 12, 1984

Before he is born, a T-800 is sent back in time to 1:52 AM May 12, 1984 to kill his mother. In response, he sends Kyle Reese
to 2:01 AM May 12, 1984, so that he can protect his mother before he can be conceived. Because of this, John is actually older than his father.

June 8, 1995

Later, he sends a T-800
back to 3:14 AM June 8, 1995 to protect himself when he was still a child from a T-1000
that had been sent to 4:58 AM June 8, 1995 to kill him.

July 24, 2004 (Judgement Day)

A T-X was sent back in time to 1:14 AM July 24, 2004 to kill the following people: #Connor, John #Anderson, Elizabeth (Terminated) #Anderson, William (Terminated) #Barrera, José (Terminated) #Brewster, Katherine #Brewster, Robert (Terminated) #??? #Holand, ??? #???, Ted #???

Although a T-850 was sent to protect John Connor, it wasn't reprogrammed by John Connor, nor was it programmed to follow John's orders. The reprogrammed T-850 was actually sent by his future wife and second-in-command, Katherine Brewster (Daughter of Skynet's creator General Robert Brewster). This was because Connor died before the T-850 was captured, reprogrammed and sent from October 28, 2033 to 2:33:59 AM July 24, 2004 to protect both Katherine and John.

July 4, 2032

John Connor was eventually assassinated on July 4, 2032 by a T-850 Model 101, the same T-850 that was later reprogrammed and sent into the past. This model was selected due to the emotional attachment Connor would feel upon seeing its familiar physiognomy.

Of course since Connor is now fully aware of this event following Terminator 3 it can be considered likely that he escaped the attack since he would be on his guard that day. (Of course, in the case of a predestination paradox, his trying to avert death may actually bring about events leading to the very fate he is trying to avoid.)

This attempt on Connor's life that actually succeeded probably had little effect on the course of the war with Skynet: Connor was the founder of the human resistance, and killing him (or preventing his birth) before the Man-Machine War would have prevented the human resistance against Skynet from ever beginning. However, by the time Connor is supposed to actually be assassinated, the resistance has been fighting the war for three decades, and it is doubtful that the death of one man would be enough to stop the resistance anymore by that point.
