| John S. Waters (1893-1965), also credited as "John Waters" and "Johnnie Waters," was a director of Hollywood movies from 1918 to 1958. He directed eleven Western movies in the Silent Era, most notably Born to the West (1926) and Sioux Blood (1929). He also directed the short Donkey Baseball (1935) and The Mighty McGurk (1946). Besides directing these films, he was an assistant director and second unit director at MGM, usually uncredited. He was nominated for an Academy Award for unspecified work in 1932-33, and he received the Academy Award for Best Assistant Director in 1933 for his work on Viva Villa!.
