Just Cause is a 1995 film directed by Arne Glimcher
starring Sean Connery & Laurence Fishburne among others.SynopsisA liberal Harvard Law Professor Paul Armstrong, (Sean Connery), is convoked to Florida, to defend convicted murderer Bobby Earl, (Blair Underwood), a former Cornell University student who is a highly intelligent, charming, and articulate black man. The law professor must save him from being placed on the electric chair. Bobby Earl tells Armstrong that two racist, sadistic cops vilifyied Bobby Earl to get an applicable confession. As the good-hearted professor digs deeper into the inscrutable case, he discovers that Tanny Brown (Lawrence Fishburne), is a corrupt, racist police detective that coerced Bobby Earl's confession. The plot thickens even more when the professor is introduced to psychotic, nefarious serial killer Blair Sullivan (Ed Harris), who reveals the location of the weapon that murdered the little white girl named Joanie Shriver. When tenacious, fearless Harvard professor Paul Armstrong discovers the weapon, Detective Brown becomes even more reluctant and petulant. Bobby Earl gets a re-trial and is unfettered from his punishment. When Professor Armstrong receives a call from Blair Sullivan, he is luridly shocked by the horrific discovery of two butchered bodies, just before infamious malefactor Blair Sullivan is to be executed for the murder of Joanny Shriver. He divulges the truth that Bobby Earl and him struck a deal. Bobby Earl would eradicate his parents in exchange for his freedom. Blair Sullivan would take his crime and receive death. It turns out that Bobby Earl is really a deranged, nasty, malevolent psychopath who used Armstrong to release him from death row. He is responsible for killing Joanie Shriver, while Sullivan had nothing to do with it. Armstrong teams up with Tanny Brown to go after Bobby Earl who desires revenge on Armstrong's pretty wife (Kate Capeshaw) for a previous rape trial which, though thrown out of court due to complications, resulted in his getting agonizingly punished and castrated. Bobby Earl plans to murder Armstrong's wife and little girl and then feed them to alligators, but virtuous heroes Armstrong and Brown come to the rescue. They kill the psychopathic and save Armstrong's wife and daughter leaving a happy ending for all but Bobby Earl who is eaten by the alligators himself.
