K. Balachander is a director, writer, and producer from Tamil Nadu. He was born in 1930 in Nannilam, Thanjavur, India. Throughout his career, he has encouraged growth in the Tamil film industry in South India, and introduced many successful actors, such as Kamal Hassan and Rajni Kanth. He is a recipient of the Padma Shri award.

He again joined with Kamalhaasan to do punnagai mannan. It is a movie which one should not have missed in his life time. He depicts a Suicide scene where Kamalhaasan and Rekha fall off from the top of Chalakudi falls(This was later called as Punnagai mannan falls). This movie was a bit controversial as it contained some pro-LTTE dialogues in it.

When we hear from the legends of Rajnikanth and Kamalhaasan, they always say proud of their mentor. They say he is a very good actor too. He has the habit of foreplaying the scenes to the artists. One close friend of balachander is Nagesh
