	Movies - Kama Sutra: A Tale of Love

Kama Sutra: A Tale of Love is a 1997 motion picture directed by Mira Nair, which takes its title from the ancient Indian text, the Kama Sutra. It has little to do with the work itself, but is a love story. The movie was initially banned in India and Pakistan because of the erotic scenes.

Plot Summary

Set in 16th Century India, the movie depicts the story of two girls, Maya and Tara, who were raised together even though they come from very different social classes. Tara is an upper-caste princess while Maya is her servant. Maya is resentful of the inferiority she is made to feel, despite their nearly equal upbringing. Maya exacts her revenge on Tara by seducing the latter's husband on the wedding day. This sets off a struggle for power which eventually brings about tragedy.
