Keeping Mum is a British 2005 black comedy movie starring Rowan Atkinson, Kristin Scott Thomas, and Dame Maggie Smith.

Plot

A pastor (Atkinson) is very busy with his work, like writing the perfect sermon, and does not fulfil the sexual needs of his wife Gloria (Scott Thomas). This results in Gloria having an affair, with her golf instructor Lance (Swayze) who also practices voyeurism video-taping from the bushes daughter Holly undressing inside. Holly frequently has a new boyfriend, with whom she noticeably makes love in a minibus in front of the house. Son Petey is bullied by schoolmates. The father notices little of all this.

The new housekeeper Grace (Smith) tries to be helpful in solving family problems by killing first the noisy dog of the neighbor, then the neighbor himself because he may get suspicious. She also sabotages the brakes of the bike of a boy bullying Petey, which results in injury, which makes Petey, who thinks the boy is dead, very happy. Grace also kills Gloria's lover. Gloria and Holly discover the killings. Grace is about to kill a nosy neighbor who visits to discuss an unrelated problem, by hitting her on the head with a frying pan, because Grace thinks she has discovered the killings.; It is prevented by Gloria, who explains the misunderstanding. However, due to the fear she dies of a heart attack anyway. Gloria tells Grace that when having a problem with someone, one cannot just kill him or her. She replies that her docters kept telling her the same, but it was the one thing they could never agree on. Grace also reveals that she is Gloria's long lost mother.

Grace eventually leaves the family when order seems to be restored among them. When workers tell the family that the family's pond has to be pumped dry because of poisonous cyanobacteria, Gloria realizes that they will discover the dead bodies at the bottom. She adopts the same problem solving method as Grace used: she kills the workers.
