| Keith Iath Giffen (November 30, 1952 - ) is an American writer, artist and penciller of comic books. He was born in Queens, New York City, New York. Giffen is best-known for his long runs illustrating and later writing the futuristic superhero team book Legion of Super-Heroes in the 1980s and 1990s, for co-creating the humorous, international version of the Justice League in the late 1980s (which he later revisited in "Formerly Known As The Justice League", calling them The Super Buddies) and for the characters of alien mercenary Lobo (with Roger Slifer) and the irreverent Ambush Bug. He has also worked on titles including All-Star Comics, Heckler, Reign of the Zodiac, Suicide Squad, Trencher, T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents, and Vext. Giffen has frequently changed his drawing style, and was criticized in comic circles in the 1980s for adopting an illustrative style heavily influenced by Argentine comic artist Jose Munoz. Giffen took a break from the comic industry for several years, working on storyboards for television and film. He and his Justice League cohorts (J.M. DeMatteis and Kevin Maguire) have recently unleashed their particular brand of storytelling on Marvel Comics' The Defenders. Other recent Marvel work includes Drax The Destroyer and The Howling Commandos. Again with DeMatteis and Maguire, Giffen recently produced more superhero humor in the 3-issue mini-series Hero Squared for Boom! Studios. Trencher is to be re-released in a collected edition by Boom! Studios. Keith Giffen is the lead writer (along with Geoff Johns, Greg Rucka, Mark Waid and Grant Morrison) on the upcoming DC Comic book 52, a weekly series following in the wake of the Infinite Crisis crossover. Keith Giffen is also the lead writer for Marvel comics's Annihilation (comics) event, as he will be writing the one-shot prologue as well as the main six issues mini-series. Kieth Giffen was responsible for the english adaptation of the Battle Royale manga, a publication hated by as many fans as it is loved.
