Khwaja Ahmad Abbas (June 7 1914 - June 1 1987) was an Indian film director, scenarist and journalist. He was born in Panipat, Punjab, British India (now Haryana, India). Abbas graduated from Aligarh Muslim University in 1933. Originally, Abbas was a journalist, writing for a New Delhi newspaper, the Aligargh Opinion. Abbas served as a film critic for the Bombay Chronicle from 1935-1947. Abbas is perhaps most famous in journalism for writing "The Last Page," the longest-running political column in India’s history.

His directorial debut was the realist Dharti Ke Lal in 1945 for the Indian People's Theatre Association (IPTA). He wrote the scripts for Awaara
