| King Seesar (キングシーサー) or King Shisa (most commonly and inaccurately known among fans as "King Caesar" due to the similarity to the name of famed ruler Julius Caeser) is a fictional monster, appearing in two films in the Godzilla series. This monster is based on the shisa, an actual lion-dog god from Okinawa mythology (and is originally from China). King Seesar was first summoned to battle the first Mechagodzilla, as part of an ancient prophecy. The lion-like beast rose from a seaside cave just as Mechagodzilla arrived in the area. At first Seesar did well, repeatedly reflecting Mechagodzilla's eye beams back at him. The mechanical beast eventually gained the upper hand, though, and beat Seesar into submission. When Godzilla arrived he joined Seesar and they battled Mechagodzilla together, though he was too strong even for their combined might. They eventually triumphed thanks to Godzilla's sudden magnetic ability, with Seesar gashing Mechagodzilla in the chest several times and Godzilla twisting off Mechagodzilla's head. With the robot threat gone, Seesar returned to his cave. Thirty years later, King Seesar was one of the many monsters controlled by the Xilians, though it is unknown if this Seesar shared his predecessor's mythical origins or not. Destroying Okinawa, Seesar was eventually teleported away by the Xilians to look as if they got rid of the beast for mankind. Seesar was eventually returned to finish his rampage, and when Godzilla began to battle the Xilians' monsters, Seesar, along with Rodan and Anguirus, was sent to attack him at Mt. Fuji, who were ironically allies in the original Showa series. The three monsters did as best as they could, but were completely overwhelmed by Godzilla, who kept turning their attacks against each other. Beaten badly, the trio was left in an exhausted pile, the only monsters whose lives were spared by Godzilla. Ironically, Seesar was one of several monsters that were Godzilla's allies during the Showa Era; this has been seen as an homage by Toho to their past "friendship" with Godzilla. Trivia
