| Last Holiday is a film directed by Wayne Wang and starring Queen Latifah, filmed at Barrandov Studios. It was released in North America on January 13, 2006. The 2006 film is a remake of a 1950 movie of the same name, starring Alec Guinness. As of February 5, 2006, the film grossed a total of 36.3 million dollars. PlotQueen Latifah plays Georgia Byrd, an employee in the cookware department of a department store in New Orleans. She leads a mechanical lifestyle, cooking wonderful meals for her neighbor and his grandfather, but never eating any herself. While flirting with a co-worker, Sean Matthews (LL Cool J), she bumps her head on a cabinet door and is taken to the store's health center for a CAT scan. There the doctor, Mr. Gutpa, discovers that she has a brain tumor and that she only has three weeks left to live. She attempts to tell her boss, but he ignores her and won't let her fit a word in edgewise, so she quits on the spur of the moment. She doesn't spend time sulking for long, though. She takes all her money out of the bank, cashes her bonds, and goes on her dream vacation to the Grandhotel Pupp in in the spa city of Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic. Before she leaves, Sean gives her a ticket to a sports game (New Orleans Hornets vs Dallas Mavericks) in the hope that she can attend with him. On arriving in the Czech republic, she hires a helicopter to fly into Karlovy Vary more quickly. The bell-boys note that the last person to fly in by helicopter was Elton John. There she has massages, attempts snowboarding and base jumping off of a dam, enjoys succulent meals, occupies the presidential suite, and otherwise enjoys herself. She meets the businessman who owns the store she worked at, his assistant-slash-mistress, a Louisiana senator who missed her church's choir performance, and others. The businessman is skeptical about Georgia's unknown origins, and hires a grouchy maid to find out. The valet, snooping through Georgia's belongings, finds a note to Miss Byrd's sister, asking that she be cremated after her tumor had taken its toll. This somewhat depresses the maid, who notes to Georgia that she should be spending her last days with someone she loves. This makes Georgia decide to go back to the States and see Sean. Meanwhile, Sean has learned where Georgia has gone, and, despite his airplane qualms, sets off to see her. However, the two end up on opposite sides of an avalanche. Georgia goes back to the hotel, but Sean starts across the snow. Back at the hotel, the businessman's mistress has left him, and he has determined to jump off of the hotel's window ledge. Georgia quickly hurries up to prevent him, and the two are conversing more than fifty feet in the air by the time that Sean arrives. Georgia mentions that she could almost hear Sean calling her name. At that moment, Sean does call her, and quickly goes up to the window. Almost simultaneously, a fax arrives from Dr. Gutpa. The valet rushes it up to the window-sitters. Georgia does not have a brain tumor after all. The old CAT scan was faulty, and says that everyone has brain tumors in the exact same places. In the end, she marries Sean and opens her own restaurant. It is stated to be on DVD on May 2, 2006.Main cast
