Lavoura Arcaica (2001), or To the left of the father, is a poetical Brazilian movie, directed by Luiz Fernando Carvalho, based on the homonym novel by Raduan Nassar.

Plot Summary

The story is about a young man, André (Selton Mello), whose ideas are totally different from his father's (Raul Cortez). He leaves his home, located on a farm, and moves to a dirty pension. His brother, Pedro (Leonardo Medeiros), is ordered by their mother (Juliana Carneiro da Cunha) to bring André back. His return, however, will change the family's structures. The film shows André's angst and love for his sister, Ana (Simone Spoladore).
