Lawrence Kasdan (born 14 January, 1949) is an Jewish-American movie producer, director and screenwriter. Kasdan's introduction into the film business was working with George Lucas as co-writer on the last two installments of the Star Wars trilogy, which beforehand, he had been a freelance advertising copywriter. He later went onto his directing debut with Body Heat
.

He is a graduate of the University of Michigan. He is the father of director Jake Kasdan.
