Lew R. Hunter (born July 18, 1935) is an American screenwriter, author and educator and is chairman Emeritus and Professor of Screenwriting at the UCLA Department of Film and Television. He is recognized as one of the best screenwriting teachers in the United States. His former students include such people as Steven Speilberg who has called Hunter the best teacher he ever had.

Hunter lives in the small town or Superior, Nebraska where he teaches seminars for aspiring screenwriters. In 1998, nine of the ten top-grossing movies came from screenwiters trained at Hunter's screenwriting colony. His bestselling book on screenwiting is entitled Screenwriting 434.

A native of Nebraska, Hunter has a bachelors degree and honorary doctorate from Nebraska Wesleyan University and has masters degrees from Northwestern University and UCLA.
