Movies - Lilo & Stitch 2: Stitch Has a Glitch

Lilo & Stitch 2: Stitch Has a Glitch is a direct-to-video animated film produced by DisneyToon Studios
. The film is the direct sequel to the 2002
Disney
feature film Lilo & Stitch
. The film takes place before the events of Stitch! The Movie
, Lilo & Stitch: The Series
, and Leroy & Stitch
. It was released on August 30, 2005
. Like the original film, Lilo & Stitch 2 features the music of Elvis Presley
and the original film's animation style.

Plot

Lilo
and her classmates are preparing for a hula competition where the winner gets to perform at a local festival. Each student is required to create an original dance. While preparing for the competition, Stitch's past comes to haunt him. It seems that after Stitch was created, Jumba did not get a chance to fully charge him before they were both arrested. At first this glitch causes Stitch to revert to his old destructive programming but it will ultimately destroy him if Jumba cannot create a charging pod before Stitch's energy runs out.

Meanwhile, Stitch's uncontrollable destructive behavior is driving a wedge between him and Lilo and ruining her chances for success at the hula competition. Lilo gets mad at Stitch and he sends himself away so he won't hurt anyone he loves. Ultimately, Lilo forfeits the competition to help Stitch and her love revives him when Jumba's machine cannot.

Trivia

  • The film seems to overlook the continuity established in the PlayStation 2 video game, Disney's Stitch: Experiment 626
. In this game set before the events of the first film, Stitch is apparently fully charged and wreaking havoc in outer space. This plot is also evident in the deleted scene entitled "Stitch's Trial" shown on the first Lilo & Stitch DVD. In Lilo & Stitch 2, he is captured before he is fully charged and able to cause further damage.
  • This is the first Stitch movie without the original voice of Lilo, Daveigh Chase
. She is temporarily replaced by Dakota Fanning
    .
  • Lilo & Stitch 2 was originally slated for theatrical release (like Return to Never Land
) but this plan was nixed in favor of a direct-to-video release.
  • This film is the sequel to Lilo & Stitch
, but was released after Stitch! The Movie
, thus making it an interquel.
