Movies - Little Fugitive


Little Fugitive is a 1953
film which tells the story of a young boy who runs away to Coney Island after he is tricked into believing he has killed his older brother. It stars Richard Brewster, Winifred Cushing, Jay Williams, Will Lee, Charlie Moss, Tommy DeCanio and Richie Andrusco.

The movie was written and directed by Raymond Abrashkin (under the pseudonym "Ray Ashley"), Morris Engel and Ruth Orkin.

The film was also known The Coney Island Kid.

It was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Writing, Motion Picture Story. The film has been deemed "culturally significant" by the Library of Congress and selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry
.

Joanna Lipper, who created such documentaries as "Growing Up Fast" and "Inside Out: Portraits of Children," planned to remake the movie with Ruby Slipper Productions and release it in 2005. For unknown reasons, the movie has not yet been released.
