Long-Haired Hare is a Warner Brothers Looney Tunes theatrical cartoon short released in 1949 and directed by Friz Freleng and written by Tedd Pierce.SynopsisAn opera singer gets annoyed at Bugs for playing his banjo (and other instruments) and therefore distracting him from his singing practice. He uses the instruments as weapons to clobber the critter. Bugs is, at first, tolerant of the singer's apparent rudeness, taking the first two attacks in stride, but after a third instance of such brutality, Bugs declares "Of course you know, this means war!" Bugs exacts his revenge against the opera singer (shown on the poster as Giovanni Jones) first by hammering the roof of the concert hall to disrupt the singer's vocals, then by dressing up as an adoring female fan asking for an autograph, only the pen is a stick of dynamite. Finally, for the coup de grĂ¢ce, Bugs poses as the highly respected Leopold (sometimes considered to be modeled on Leopold Stokowski) to take over the conducting duties and by use of hand gestures, Bugs has Giovanni hold a note well past the point of endurance (at one point, Bugs leaves his glove hovering in the air and steps outside to order a pair of ear muffs), causing the singer to turn different colors and to bang his fists on the floor, until eventually the concert roof comes crumbling down on top of the unfortunate Giovanni. When Giovanni climbs out of the rubble, Bugs again cues the singer to sing so that a boulder, precariously balanced on a steel girder, falls on the singer's head. To add insult to injury, Bugs closes out the performance by strumming "Good Evening, Friends" on a banjo.[ Visit the complete Wikipedia entry for Long-Haired Hare ] Some related entries: Black Sunday | 24 Hours to Live | Paths of Glory | Michael Deeley | Lawrence Sher | The Hidden Fortress | The Buffalo Boy | The Lost World | The Craft | Home of the Giants | It Should Happen to You This page is based on the copyrighted Wikipedia article Long-Haired Hare; it is used under the GNU Free Documentation License.
