Movies - Look Both Ways

Look Both Ways is an Australian independent movie, written and directed by Sarah Watt and released in 2005. The film was supported by the Adelaide Film Festival fund and opened the 2005 festival.

The film charts the stories of several people over a hot, summer weekend in Adelaide. Journalist Nick (William McInnes
) discovers he has cancer. On his way home he happens upon the site of a train accident and meets Meryl (Justine Clarke
). The story follows their developing affections as well as a host of other co-centric stories including that of the woman widowed by the train accident, the train driver and his family, Nick's collegue (Anthony Hayes) and his relationships and Nick's family.

The film has received praise for Watt's innovative use of animation and montages to complement her story. Critics have also commented on the effectiveness of a romantic comedy about death. Look Both Ways has been hailed as a part of the re-birth of Australian cinema, accompanying films such as The Proposition
, Little Fish and Wolf Creek in a highly successful year at the box office for Australian films.
