| Mathilukal(1965) a novel by Vaikom Muhammad Basheer, made into a movie of the same name by Adoor Gopalakrishnan in 1989. The story is autobiographical and deals with Basheer's time in Poojappura Central Jail, Thiruvananthapuram in 1942. Before being sentenced to prison term, he had to spent time at Kasba police station lock-up at Kollam awaiting trial, during which time he wrote many of his police-stories.
