Midnight Conflict was the directorial debut for independent filmmaker Michael Thomas Dunn. The short film was originally filmed as a student thesis for the film school at the University of Central Florida. However, due to its groundbreaking narrative style and visuals, the film toured the world being exhibited at nearly 2 dozen film festivals in 6 different countries. The minimal dialogue in the film meant that it never needed to be translated into any other languages.

The film is known for its incredible visual style that was a collaboration between Michael Thomas Dunn and Director of Photography Aaron Martina. The movie was revolutionary on an academic level since it was the first film shot at the UCF Film Program on Digital Video (DVCAM Pro).

The story is very linear. A C.I.A. sleeper agent named Paul Bilson (portrayed by Michael Thomas Dunn) is ambushed by terrorists. The group is lead by the mysterious Roger Johnson (played by Jean-Paul Gibeau) who is actually a double-agent infiltrating the C.I.A.. Supporting actors Dave Rodriguez and Greg Mackie prove worthy villians to the young C.I.A. operative. For a student produced film, the movie was especially ambitious featuring numerous intense stunts including a remarkable staircase chase sequence and a fast-paced car chase.
