Movies - Minor Dark wizards in Harry Potter

This article is about minor Dark wizards from the Harry Potter series. See Lord Voldemort
and Death Eater for further selections.

Alecto and Amycus

Alecto and Amycus are siblings (sister and brother, respectively) who participated in the assault on Hogwarts school. Amycus is described as being squat and lumpy-looking, with a lopsided leer and a wheezy giggle. They are possibly "the Carrows" mentioned by Snape in the second chapter.

Amycus is a hero in Greek mythology. Alecto is one of the Furies, the Greek goddesses of revenge.

Avery

Avery has known Voldemort since Hogwarts. He was also a Death Eater during Voldemort's first reign of terror, but avoided being brought to justice by saying he was acting under the Imperius Curse. After he rose again, Voldemort punished Avery with the Cruciatus Curse for his disloyalty.

It is possible that there may be two Death Eaters named Avery--one may be the other's father. Sirius Black
mentions that an Avery was in Hogwarts at the same time as Snape, and there was also one in Tom Riddle's class. The same applies for the Lestranges.

Avery was the unfortunate one of the Death Eaters--he was tortured at least twice by Voldemort, and was also the unlucky Death Eater in the Department of Mysteries. In the Time Room, he was hit by a spell and fell into a bell jar that played with time. His head began to shrink to a baby's and then regrow, only to shrink again; he finally managed to get free, but his head was still in its baby form. But this stroke of bad luck gave Harry Potter very good luck--Antonin Dolohov, one of the most lethal Death Eaters, who single-handedly defeated Harry Potter, Hermione Granger
, and Neville Longbottom
--was robbed of his victory when Avery, confused and blundering, entered the room; Dolohov was distracted and Harry seized the opportunity to perform the Full Body-Bind upon him. Our last sight of Avery was him blundering around in the time room--it is assumed that he was apprehended, restored, and sent off to Azkaban.

Antonin Dolohov

Antonin Dolohov was one of the five Death Eaters who murdered Gideon and Fabian Prewett, who were Molly Weasley
's brothers, and who tortured many Muggles and opponents of Voldemort during the first war. Dolohov was caught shortly after Igor Karkaroff
, who named him during his own trial. He was sent to Azkaban, but escaped during the mass breakout of January 1996. He fought in the Battle of the Department of Mysteries and is currently in Azkaban prison. Because of his name, which is most likely Ukrainian, he could possibly be a graduate of Durmstrang.

During the battle, he proved that he was one of the most dangerous Death Eaters. He single-handedly defeated Harry Potter, Hermione Granger
, and Neville Longbottom
at one time. After he and a Death Eater named Jugson found the trio in a room, Dolohov called out to the other Death Eaters. Before he could finish his sentence, though, Hermione used a Silencing Charm on him. His partner was then struck by a Full Body-Bind of Harry's. But the friends had made a mistake that was very nearly fatal.

Caught up in the thrill of the moment, Hermione and the two boys overlooked the fact that Dolohov had merely been Silenced, and not disabled. Just as Hermione was congratulating Harry, he struck, slashing his wand furiously. A lethal spell in the form of a jet of purple light and flames passed across Hermione's chest. Caught off-guard, the young witch was unable to defend herself, and fell to the ground, unconscious. Harry and Neville immediately panicked at the sight of their friend falling, and Dolohov acted, kicking Neville aside, breaking both his nose and his father's old wand. Harry was left to face one of the most dangerous Death Eaters alone--and his fear for Hermione caused his will to fight to all but vanish.

Dolohov was unable to speak, but he only needed a few gestures to show that if Harry did not give him the prophecy, he would send him to join Hermione. Harry refused, and very nearly died--it was only the timely arrival of the confused and baby-headed Death Eater Avery that spared him. Avery blundered in, and Dolohov looked for a brief moment at the extraordinary apparition. Harry seized the chance, and immediately performed the Full Body-Bind on Dolohov as well. He then turned to Hermione, and was relieved to hear Neville announce that she was still alive--if completely unconscious. It would later be revealed that the fact that Dolohov could not utter the incantation aloud had been all that had saved her.
