Mobile Detective Jiban (機動刑事ジバン kidou keiji jiban) is a Japanese tokusatsu television series produced by the Toei, company broadcast from January, 1989 to January, 1990.

Plot

A new detective in Central City was killed by a Bioron agent in the line of duty. Dr. Kenzou Igarashi, a man whose experiments had been responsible for the Bioron syndacate's existence, brought the man back to life as a robot detective, Jiban.

Charatcers

  • Naoto Tamura/Jiban: A human revived as a cyborg by Dr. Igarashi to fight Bioron. He capable of reverting to his human identity at will & holds the rank of police commissioner. Jiban's programming enables him to follow these directives: Arrest criminals in any circumstance without a warrant, punish criminals on his own judgment if they happen to be members of Bioron, use lethality depending on the circumstances. He was killed by Mad Garbo and Rhinoid, only to be rebuilt as Perfect Jiban(Basically the same design as the orignal Jiban , but with a blue-colored metal body) .
  • Mayumi Igarashi: The only civilian who knew Jiban's secret identity. Lost her memory in battle. refers to Naoto as her 'older brother'.
  • Shun'ichi and Shizue Igarashi: Mayumi's parents, relocated as witnesses to Bioron.
  • Dr. Kenzou Igarashi: Started the Jiban project to counter the Bioron, the results of his biological experimentation. He died after Jiban was built.
  • Youko Katagiri: Female detective of Central City and Naoto's senior officer. She's a sharpshooter who never figure out that Naoto was Jiban.
  • Kiyoshirou Muramatsu': Elite detective of Central City with a liking for Youko.
  • Seiichi Yanagida: Head of the Central City Police Department, he cooperated with Dr. Igarashi in the Jiban Project two years earlier.
  • Section Chief Bandou: Central City Section Chief of Detectives. He has constant headaches trying to keep peace in jurisdictions where strange events occurred, no thanks to Bioron.
  • Michiyo Matsumoto: Tea server of the Detectives' Section of the Central City Police Department. Always cheerful and encouraging.
  • Lezon: Jiban's patrol car, a Corvette with a sixth generation computer and AI.
  • Bygun: Jiban's motorcycle with a sixth generation computer and hence AI.
  • Spirus: Jiban's AI stealth fighter plane.

Bioron

An armed force organized by the mysterious scientist Doctor Kiba intending to take over Japan by means of narrow attacks rather than large-scale destruction.

Doctor Kiba (played by Leo Menghetti, voiced by Shozo Izuka): The founder of Bioron. He was eventally revealed to be Kibanoid, a Bioroid born by accident from the cheimcal waste of Dr. Igarashi lab.

  • Marsha & Karsha: The first biolifeforms created by Kiba. His secretaries and intemediaries between him and his Bionoid agents. They can assume their inhuman "Battle" forms.
  • Mad Garbo (17-): A Jiban Killer Cyborg created by Kiba as an counter to Jiban.
  • Masques: Mass-produced grunt life forms armed with knives and guns. Can regenerate lost limbs.
