| Monsoon Wedding (2001) is a film directed by Mira Nair which depicts various romantic entanglements during a traditional Punjabi wedding in Delhi. Because it was hugely successful across the world, earning over $20 million at the box office, the film is often described as the highest-grossing Indian film ever made, although it was in fact a co-production between India, the USA and several other countries. The movie was awarded the "Golden Lion" award from the Venice Film Festival, and was nominated for the award for "Best Foreign Film" at the Golden Globes.
