Moon Child is a movie starring Gackt Camui (formerly Malice Mizer) and Hyde (L'Arc~en~Ciel), Zeny Kwok and Wang Lee Hom. It is set in the world of the near future, where an orphan and a vampire form a friendship that is put to test by a gang ravaging the city. In this movie, Sho (Gackt) falls in love with a girl named Yi-Che, who was mute since she was little, and in turn she falls in love with Kei (Hyde). This story takes place in fictional Mallepa. It was filmed in Taiwan.

Plot

This story is a futuristic vampire story meets a classic Chinese mafia story. In the year 2014, Japan has collapsed economically and thus its people emigrated in large numbers and settled in other parts of the world. In a Chinese speaking city called Mallepa, three oprhans Sho (Gackt), Shinji and Toshi are trying to steal money to live. (Sho and Shinji are brothers.) While robbing a gangster, Sho finds a vampire named Kei (Hyde). Sho doesn't seem to mind that Kei's a vampire, though he doesn't tell his brother Shinji or their friend Toshi.

While performing a robbery one night, Sho, Kei and Toshi meet an enraged Taiwanese man, Son (Wang Lee Hom) and decide to join forces with him. Later, they learn that Son was after the gang that Sho and friends were trying to rob, because that gang had raped his sister, Yi-Che. Sho, Toshi and Kei get to be friends with Son and Yi-Che, and Sho develops a crush on her. Yi-Che meanwhile develops a crush on Kei, and Kei grows to care for Yi-Che.

Toshi is kidnapped one day and killed by some gangsters. Kei is apphrended by authorities and kept in an undisclosed location. Sho visits him and convinces him to escape, telling him that Yi-Che now has a brain tumor. Kei, who'd previously lost the will to live suddenly finds himself longing to see Sho and his old friends.

Meanwhile, back in Mallepa, Shinji gets killed and Sho goes to view his body. Yi-Che goes with him and Son, who'd joined a mob that was invovled in Shinji's death, tries to apologize. Sho will hear none of it, and threatens to kill Son's entire family, seeming to forget that he's married the man's sister and fathered his niece. Yi-Che, who hasn't spoken since her childhood, finally began speaking, ordering her brother and husband to stop fighting. The two listen for awhile.

When Yi-Che is hospitalized for her brain tumor, she begins to call Sho, "Kei." After Kei escapes, he comes to visit her before she dies. Sho and Kei then get into a disagreement. Sho wants Kei to turn Yi-Che into a vampire. Kei refuses. Sho then requests that Kei help him exact revenge on the mob that killed Shinji. Kei accepts.

They go to the rundown warehouse where they met, kick mobster butt and then Sho runs into Son. They have a duel, and Sho lets Son shoot him fatally; knowing that his brother is dead, his wife is as good as dead, and his best friend (Kei) wants to die, he figures that there is no reason for him to live. He also knows that Son will take care of his daughter, so there's no reason to worry about her. Kei, however, is displeased by this. He kills Son and turns Sho into a vampire.

Unable to face his daughter after what he's become, Sho holds Kei to the promise that Kei made before the mobster fight, saying that should Sho die that day, Kei will look after his family. Kei raises Sho's daughter, and she grows up to become an acomplished artist like her mother was. Kei and Sho then drive off to a beach where they die, singing the angsty "Orenji no Taiyou", a song that Luka taught Kei (Luka is the only other vampire that Kei is close to, and he commits suicide near the beginning of the movie).
