Move Over, Darling is a 1963 comedy starring Doris Day as Ellen Wagstaff Arden, a mother of two young children who was believed to be lost at sea following an airplane accident. Her husband Nick Arden (James Garner) was one of the survivors and despite years of searching for her has decided to move on with his life by having Ellen declared dead so he can marry his highly-neurotic fiancée, Bianca (Polly Bergen). Ellen is rescued and returns home on the day that she is being to be declared dead and her husbands immediate remarriage by his mother (Thelma Ritter). At first crestfallen, Ellen is relieved to discover that she can still save her marriage if she can stop her husband's honeymoon.

This remake of the 1940 screwball comedy My Favorite Wife
was originally designed to be a come-back vehicle for Marilyn Monroe, under the working title of Something's Got to Give
. Dean Martin was originally cast as Nick Arden, and the film was to be directed by George Cukor. Monroe died early in its production cycle after filming only about 30 minutes of usable film. Unable to complete the film, and having already sunk a considerable about of money into the production and sets, 20th Century Fox went ahead with the project, under a new title, new director, and recast stars.
