Munchies is 1987 comedy film starring Harvey Korman, Charles Stratton, and Nadine Van der Velde. It spawned two sequels, Munchie and Munchie Strikes Back.

Plot summary

The protagonist of munchies, space archaeologist Simon Watterman, discovers a "Munchie" in a cave in Peru. His son and girlfriend name it Arnold. Cecil Watterman, Simon's evil twin brother and snack food entrepreneur, kidnap Arnold while Cindy and Paul are making out.

When Arnold is hurt by his kidnappers, it becomes agressive and attacks Cecil's adopted son. Attempting to kill Arnold, they chop him in half, but instead of dying, Arnold multiplies into four munchies. The quartet fo creatures develop a love of women, beer, attacking people, and junk food in the process.

Other Similar Stories

Basically these creatures are a type of stone monster. In the movie they had spells on them so that if lightning or electricity hit them they'd become flesh and blood. This is similar to the story of the stone monkey that came to life in Chinese folklore when he came to life the same way. (Think of the story of Sūn Wùkōng the monkey king and Disney's Gargoyles for a few ideas.)
