Movies - Nadja

Nadja is a 1994 film by Michael Almereyda starring

with a cameo by

  • David Lynch
(also Executive producer) -- morgue attendant
As the character's names suggest, Nadja is a vampire film, but treating elements of the genre in an understated art-house style.

The deadpan acting, episodic nature of the plot, and the presence of Donovan and Löwensohn are suggestive of a Hal Hartley film though he was not involved in the production. The Chicago Review called it "Hal Hartley meets David Lynch".

The film is shot in black and white mostly at night in Manhatten and Brooklyn. Excerpts from Soon and Lose My Breath by My Bloody Valentine and Strangers and Roads by Portishead add to the atmosphere.

The film was classified R in the USA for some gore and sexual themes. In the rest of the world it generally received M (eg. M 15+ in Australia).
