Narcissa Malfoy is a fictional character in the Harry Potter series. She was born into the House of Black from Cygnus Black and Druella Rosier. She is the cousin of Sirius and Regulus Black, sister to Bellatrix Black and Andromeda Black. Narcissa is also the aunt of Nymphadora Tonks. She is the wife of Lucius Malfoy and mother of Draco Malfoy. The publication of a Black family tree revealed that Narcissa was born in 1955.

Her name is derived from the mythical figure Narcissus, whose name is both the origin of the word narcissism and the name of a small, fragrant flower. Her nickname, at least to her older sister, is "Cissy". She is described as having the habit of wrinkling her nose to appear disgusted around those of non-pureblood ancestry. Her snobbishness mars her beauty. Although pale (unlike most of her birth family), Narcissa seems to have inherited the trademark good looks of the Blacks.

When the house-elf Kreacher left the Black House on Sirius' "orders," he went to the home of Narcissa Malfoy, as she was the only member of the Black family available that he still respected. Since he was not Secret Keeper, he could not reveal the location of the Order of the Phoenix headquarters, although he did help her to discover how to lure Harry to the Department of Mysteries by exploiting Harry's bond with Sirius.

Narcissa Malfoy's love for her husband and son are surprisingly sincere. She was devastated by her husband's imprisonment in Azkaban and came to Severus Snape with her sister Bellatrix to beg him to protect her son from Voldemort. She managed to get Severus Snape to pledge an Unbreakable Vow to protect her son. The true nature of the relationship between Narcissa and Severus might be illustrated by the contrast between Snape's generally cold and distant relationship with others, and his calm and sympathetic conversation with Narcissa when he makes the Unbreakable Vow.

Narcissa is later seen in Half-Blood Prince shopping with Draco in Diagon Alley for new robes, where she and her son make taunting remarks at Harry and Hermione when they enter the store. Harry and Draco nearly start a duel, but Narcissa defuses the situation by leaving with her son.

While it is known Narcissa's loyalties are to her husband and son, the circle of Death Eaters, and likely Lord Voldemort, it is still not proven that Narcissa herself is a Death Eater, as no history of misdeeds on her part have been mentioned thus far, though an exerpt from Harry Potter and the Half-blood Prince would indicate that she is indeed a Death Eater: "If Draco succeeds, he will be honored above all of us". Adding to the suspiscions about Narcissa's true leanings is Draco's comment that he attends Hogwarts for his education on his mother's behest, rather than Durmstrang, where the Dark Arts are known to be taught.
