| Nicole Kassell (born Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 1972) is an American film director. She is the director of the independent film The Woodsman (2004) which starred Kevin Bacon as the lead character Walter. Nicole Kassell was inspired to bring The Woodsman to film, after watching a performance of the play which the movie is based on. Eventually, she convinced Lee Daniels who was one of the producers of Monster's Ball to help her get funding for the film. Kevin Bacon originally saw the script under the pretext of him helping to finance the film, but he was so impressed by the script, and the character of Walter, that he decided that he wanted to star in the film instead.
