Ocean's Eleven is a 2001 remake of the 1960 Rat Pack movie Ocean's Eleven
. The 2001 movie was directed by Steven Soderbergh and starred George Clooney, Matt Damon, Brad Pitt, Elliott Gould, Casey Affleck, Don Cheadle, Bernie Mac, Andy Garcia, and Julia Roberts. In 2004, Soderbergh directed an original sequel, Ocean's Twelve
.

It was a box-office and critical success. It was also regarded by the majority of critics as superior to the original film, a feat which occurs rarely with remakes. However, it has been noted that it bears little resemblance to the original film beyond the title, general premise, and main character's name.

Plot

In this film, Daniel Ocean (Clooney) recruits a team of specialists to rob three Las Vegas casinos: the Bellagio, The Mirage and the MGM Grand, all of which store their money in a central, high-tech bank vault. The man who owns these casinos is dating Danny Ocean's former wife, Tess (Roberts). This will aid his determination to successfully pull off the robbery. The robbers foil the elaborate security mechanisms to get to the vault with the casino's money (on the night of a big fight, ensuring there's more money in the vault), and escape by disguising themselves as a SWAT team.

Other than the lead character, none of the robbers in the remake share names with robbers in the original, although they do exhibit some of their personality quirks.
