Orion Pax is the original form of the robot who would one day become the great Autobot leader, Optimus Prime. His only appearance in the Transformers cartoons, is in the episode War Dawn,. He had a friend, Dion, and a girlfriend named Ariel.

The young Orion Pax was a factory worker who looked up to the Decepticon leader Megatron and his army as they could fly without the use of jets. When Megatron showed up at Orion's factory and decieved Orion while the Decepticons stole the energy. He fatally wounded Orion Pax along with Ariel and his friend Dion. He was taken to Alpha Trion, with the help from the Aerialbots who were there as a result of traveling back through time. Alpha Trion was already working on a way to fight the Decepticons, and with the arrival of a damaged Orion Pax, Alpha Trion used this opportunity to do so. He set forth to repair and rebuid Orion Pax, who became known as Optimus Prime and leader of the Autobots. Ariel was also rebuilt into Elita-1.

Marvel comics

The Marvel comics continuity differed from the cartoon in that Optimus received the Matrix from Sentinel Prime.

Toyline

In Japan, a toy was released by E-Hobby in 2005. The toy was a repaint of the Targetmaster Kup toy and was packaged with a repaint of the Wheelie toy in Dion's color scheme.
