| Overboard is a movie starring Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell that was released in the Summer of 1987. It was directed by Garry Marshall. Goldie Hawn is Joanna Stayton, the pampered wife of a pretentious, yacht-owning socialite. When their boat gets stuck for repairs, Joanna employs carpenter Dean Proffitt (Kurt Russell) to improve her closet space. But when Dean asks to be paid, he's blatantly turned down by the "nothing is ever good enough for me" Joanna. So when Joanna falls overboard and gets a bad case of amnesia, Dean takes advantage of the situation and, in a stroke of retributive genius, tells her that she's his wife and the mother of his four unruly children!. Cast
PlotDean Proffitt is a struggling carpenter in the tiny Oregon town of Elk Cove. After being hired by snotty millionaress Joanna Stayton to remodel a closet on her yacht, the two get into an argument about what type of wood the closet should have been built with, she is unhappy with his work and refuses to pay him. Dean refuses to leave and is knocked overboard by Joanna. Meanwhile Dean is also having personal issues at home. He is a widower and single father who is having difficulty raising four unruly sons. When the town's school principal comes to their home to welcome the children to the school, she is put through a hazing-type ordeal. When she confronts Dean about his kids unruly behavior, he just laughs it off until she threatens to call child welfare about his lack of parenting skills.Meanwhile back on the yacht, Joanna calls her mother in New York City upset about being called a bitch by Dean and she says she is pre-menstrual. Her mother advises her to go to bed for three days. Later on that night, while her and her husband, Grant are laying in bed, she realizes she left her wedding ring on the yacht deck, she asks Grant to get it and he refuses. Fed up, she decides to go retrieve the ring off the deck. Below, the captain is veering and not paying attention and no one on the ship hears her cry for help. Grant hears her cry and turns the volume on the television up to drown her out. Eventually she is tossed overboard while the yacht continues on without hearing her cry for help. Back in Elk Cove, Dean is reparing a bowling ball dispenser at the local bowling alley when on his lunch break, he listens to a news bulletin on the T.V. and discovers that Joanna was picked up in a garbage scow and is suffering from amnesia and a cash reward is being offered for anyone who knows her identity. Dean seizes the opportunity after telling his best friend, Billy who advises him that he's going in way over his head. Dean tells Billy to take his kids shopping at the Salvation Army thrift store to buy her clothes to make a wardrobe for her. Meanwhile at the hospital, Grant goes to make an identification and sees Joanna throwing a temper tantrum, he tells the warden he's never seen her before in his life and decides to leave her in the hospital's psychiatric ward. Dean arrives to make an identification and in front of the doctor, nurse and warden, he re-names her Annie, makes up some phony stories about her such as her being a member of the U.S. Marines in Seattle and sending him postcards from a service mission in Okinawa. When she asks him about her past, he lies about it, in which she tells them she'd never seen him before in her life. The doctor agrees with Joanna and tells Dean that as much as they would like to release her into his custody, they ask for proof of identification. Dean remembers her strawberry-like birthmark on her buttocks and then Joanna is free to leave the hospital with Dean.
