Parental guidance is an established rating system for movies, computer games and music recordings. It is a system which allows providers of explicit content to warn about strong language, violence, or nudity.

In Great Britain the ratings are similar; instead of "G" there is "U" (universal) then PG, 12A (only used in cinemas), 12, 15 and 18 age limits. These limits also apply for games in the UK.

parentalguide.org represents American organisations like ESRB, and is responsible for producing reports and ratings for computer games, music recordings, and movies/broadcast content.

There are calls for a similar system for rating web sites. This would mean the appropriate symbol would have to be displayed on the web site's index page rather than censorship through the Internet Protocol. Commercial content providers like Yahoo! have established the custom to display a warning message about adult content. Among other providers, the required age for participating in the service is thirteen: some content may be suitable for under eighteen but difficult to understand (in its consequences) for younger children.

Parental guidance means real guidance by an adult person with assigned guidance function, usually a parent.

Occurrence of strong language within music media requires a Parental Advisory warning. The label is commonly used within rap/hip-hop and is applicable to similar contexts.
