Peluca is a short film by director Jared Hess, produced for an assignment during his tenure at Brigham Young University in 2003. It was made for under $500, and was shot in two days. It was later discovered at the Slamdance Film Festival.

Plot

Peluca is about a weird adolescent named Seth who has a preference for ninja books, fantasy, and fanny packs. The Seth character was later adapted into Napoleon Dynamite
for the full-length film of the same name. Both were played by Jon Heder.

The character that later becomes Pedro in Napoleon Dynamite is named Giel in Peluca. The plot of Peluca is vaguely similar to that of its successor, and features some of the same camera shots as Napoleon Dynamite. For example, in the beginning of both Peluca and Napoleon Dynamite, one can see Heder standing outside, waiting for a bus.

The film is approximately nine minutes long and is shot in black and white. It is included on the Napoleon Dynamite DVD.
