Perceptor is an Autobot scientist in the fictional Transformers universe. He transforms into a microscope (which also functions as a telescope). The toy version of Perceptor actually contained a magnifying lens and could be used as a small, low-powered microscope.

In robot mode Perceptor is mosty red with black patches; his scope rests on his shoulder and can fire laser beams. When transforming his head retracts into his body and the scope slides across to cover the space where his head was. When not needed in the lab, Perceptor often serves as a lookout for his close friend and fellow Autobot Blaster, the Autobot counterpart of Soundwave.

Perceptor made his first appearance in Dinobot Island, part 2 when he assisted Chip Chase at understanding some unusual phenomena occurring in that episode. His first major episode is in Microbots when Megatron accuired the heart of Cybertron, which was decimating the autobots. He used his shrinking device to shrink himself, Bumblebee and Brawn, so they could infiltrate Megatron's "body" and disable the heart of Cybertron, which he later destroyed.

Function: Scientist

Motto: "One's ultimate truth lies in one's molecular structure."

Bio: Unquenchable thirst for knowledge... seeks it to exclusion of all else... Main role is to study the best ways the Autobots can adapt to Earth. Extremely smart. Scientific specialties are metallurgy, molecular chemistry, electrical engineering. As microscope, capable of powerful magnification. Lens barrel converts into powerful light cannon. Carries concussion rifle in robot mode. Absent minded. Lenses are his weakest part.

Transformers: Armada

In the later Transformers: Armada series, the Mini-Con "Street Action Team" combine to form a robot called Perceptor (Bumble in Japan).

Motto: "The power is within you!"

Bio: When the three Mini-Cons of the Street Action Team -- Sureshock, Grindor, and High Wire -- combine, they form one larger and more powerful robot called Perceptor. The strength of the robot lies in the teamwork of the three Mini-Cons who make him up. When Sureshock, Grindor, and High Wire encounter a situation that they are not strong enough to handle individually, they combine to form Perceptor.

Transformers: Energon

Armada Perceptor returned with a completely new mold for Energon.

Motto: "Teamwork is the key to victory."

Bio: Perceptor is the combined robot form of the Street Action Mini-Con Team. Although smaller than his Autobot allies, he is an extremely powerful Mini-Con. He has been known to take down some of the toughest Decepticons during battle and has earned the respect and admiration of his teammates. Although Perceptor is a great warrior, he prefers spending time with his human friends learning about earth and its many cultures.

Transformers: Universe

Armada Perceptor would be re-released in the Universe line in darker colors packaged alongside Universe Sunstorm and Inferno. His only appearance in the Transformers: Universe storyline was as one of the Decepticons under the command of Reptilion in the Botcon 2004 voice actor play.

In late 2005 Energon Perceptor was repackaged for the Transformers: Universe line. The toy was identical to the Energon version. This character has no appeared in any Universe story yet.

Transformers: Cyberton (2006)

In 2006 the Energon Perceptor was recolored as Autobots and released again. Instead of being sold as a team set, each of the three Sureshock, Grindor and Highwire were each packaged with a Decepticon repaint Mini-Con.
