Cast

Background

Filming began on February 28, 2005, with locations once again in the Costa Alegre, in Jalisco (Mexico). The sequel also includes location shooting in St. Vincent, where the first film was shot. The filmmakers are shooting the two sequels back-to-back, à la The Matrix Reloaded
and The Matrix Revolutions
as well as Back to the Future Part II
and Part III
. Because of the back-to-back setup, filming did not finish until December 2005.

Information about the two sequels to Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl was revealed at a Disney
Investor Conference Studio Presentation in 2006. The title for the first sequel, Dead Man's Chest was revealed, and a second sequel was promised for a summer 2007
theatrical release.

Dead Man's Chest will premiere at the Disneyland theme park in Anaheim, California, on the re-opening day of the refurbished Pirates of the Caribbean
attraction on which the movie trilogy is based. The refurbished attraction will include a new storyline and Audio-Animatronics based on the movies.

Film controversy

Walt Disney Pictures has been questioned by the National Garifuna Council, a representative body of the Garifuna people, for what many feel is a racist portrayal of the Calinago, or Caribs, as cannibals in Dead Man's Chest. Despite the call for what the Council considers a fair and accurate representation, Disney has responded that the script cannot be altered, and at this point, no known changes have been made to rectify any potential defamation of the Carib people's character and history. ;

Trivia

The legendary rocker Keith Richards, model for Depp's flamboyant pirate persona, had originally agreed to appear in a cameo role as Jack Sparrow's father, but unfortunately had to pull out due to a commitment with the Rolling Stones concert tour . It now seems he may appear in the third movie.
