Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest is a 2006 pirate adventure film that follows the 2003 summer blockbuster Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. The sequel is directed by Gore Verbinski and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, both of whom were involved in the making of the first film. Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, and Keira Knightley reprise their roles as Captain Jack Sparrow, Will Turner, and Elizabeth Swann, respectively. Stellan Skarsgård plays the role of Will Turner's father, "Bootstrap Bill" Turner, and Geoffrey Rush makes a cameo appearance as Captain Barbossa. The film is due to be released in the USA on July 7 2006.Plot summaryCaptain Jack Sparrow embarks on another misadventure as he finds out that he owes a blood debt to the legendary Davey Jones, Captain of the Flying Dutchman. Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann, who are due to be married, find themselves caught up in Jack Sparrow's situation once more as time runs out for Jack to pay off his debt, otherwise dooming himself to eternal damnation.CastBackgroundFilming began on February 28, 2005, with locations once again in the Costa Alegre, in Jalisco (Mexico). The sequel also includes location shooting in St. Vincent, where the first film was shot. The filmmakers are shooting the two sequels back-to-back, à la The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions as well as Back to the Future Part II and Part III. Because of the back-to-back setup, filming did not finish until December 2005.Information about the two sequels to Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl was revealed at a Disney Investor Conference Studio Presentation in 2006. The title for the first sequel, Dead Man's Chest was revealed, and a second sequel was promised for a summer 2007 theatrical release. Dead Man's Chest will premiere at the Disneyland theme park in Anaheim, California, on the re-opening day of the refurbished Pirates of the Caribbean attraction on which the movie trilogy is based. The refurbished attraction will include a new storyline and Audio-Animatronics based on the movies. Film controversyWalt Disney Pictures has been questioned by the National Garifuna Council, a representative body of the Garifuna people, for what many feel is a racist portrayal of the Calinago, or Caribs, as cannibals in Dead Man's Chest. Despite the call for what the Council considers a fair and accurate representation, Disney has responded that the script cannot be altered, and at this point, no known changes have been made to rectify any potential defamation of the Carib people's character and history. ;TriviaThe legendary rocker Keith Richards, model for Depp's flamboyant pirate persona, had originally agreed to appear in a cameo role as Jack Sparrow's father, but unfortunately had to pull out due to a commitment with the Rolling Stones concert tour . It now seems he may appear in the third movie.[ Visit the complete Wikipedia entry for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest ] Some related entries: Ask A Policeman | Hersh Leib Sigheter | Shake Hands with the Devil | Bill Cosby: Himself | Creation | Academy Award for Best Short Film - Live Action - 2 Reels | Australian Film Institute | My Favorite Wife | Highway 61 | I Dream Too Much | Twins This page is based on the copyrighted Wikipedia article Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest; it is used under the GNU Free Documentation License.
