Movies - Queen's Film Theatre

The Queens Film Theatre, or QFT for short, is an art house cinema in Belfast, Northern Ireland. It is the largest cultural cinema in Ireland.

It houses two medium sized screens featuring luxury French seating. In 2004 it underwent an extensive refurbishment and now includes a bright, modern bar and a new entrance on to University Square, which is the site of its owners - the Queen's University of Belfast.

The QFT opened in 1968. Financial difficulties and problems with attracting funding have dogged the cinema over the years, but it has remained in constant operation apart from a short closure in 1972. Michael Open, a former student at Queens University, was the cinemas director from 1968 until 2004. Stella Hall now directs operations, as well as running the Belfast Festival at Queens. The QFT also hosts the majority of the Belfast Film Festival
screenings.
