Rasputin was a madman, a great seducer, and a very powerful man. During the time of war and revolution, Russian Empire under threat of invasion, and torn open by radical upheavel. In the palace, the Royal Family is divided by the sickness of their son, Alexis, the heir to the throne. Into this walks Rasputin with the power to heal the empire, or possibly destroy it. With Rasputin getting drunk all the time, the world turns against him, while the Royal family is impressed with his work. How was he able to forsee his own death, along with others, and the tragedy that would cause the Tsar and his family to fall.

Alan Rickman stars as Rasputin and does a magnificent job. He won an Emmy and a Golden Globe for his wonderful work in this movie. Greta Scacchi also won and Emmy for her wonderful job in this movie. The movie also won a Golden Globe for Best Mini-Series or Motion Picture made for TV. Ian Mckellan won a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor, and was nominated an Emmy for Best Supporting Actor.
