The Rat King is a fictional character from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series who has appeared in the original Mirage comics, the 1987 and 2003 television series and the Archie TMNT Adventures comics.1987 SeriesIn the 1987 series the Rat King is depicited as a homeless man living in the sewers of New York City. The Rat King can communicate with rats. He plays on his flute to hypnotize the rats, and even Splinter can be hypnotized by the music. He made his first appearance when he kidnapped April O'Neil when she was investigating the city's rat problem, and the turtles were able to rescue her, but not before he took control of Splinter. Throughout the series the Rat King was shown as a questionable character who generally has an obsession of using rats to start his own government, and although he has worked alongside The Shredder a few times, his morals have been somewhat questionable (In one episode, he even cooperated with the Turtles to help them rescue April from Shredder.). One time he teamed up with the Shredder was in "Night of the Rogues" where other villains working with Shredder are Leatherhead, Slash, Tempestra, Anthrax, Scumbug, and Chrome Dome.2003 seriesIn the 2003 series the Rat King is the product of human experimenting; a mutant clone of Agent Bishop. Unlike his 1987 series counterpart, he has a somewhat natural ability of controlling rats as they seem to be attracted to him. The Turtles and Casey Jones met him when they went to an abandoned factory for some stealth training. While fighting the Turtles and Casey, the Rat King seemed to demonstrate unusual martial arts talents, and the Turtles seem to notice that they have seen these kinds of moves before. Any further details on the Rat King's origin in the 2003 series have not been revealed yet.ComicsRat King appears in the Archie TMNT Adventures comics. He has also appeared in the original comic series. In the latest incarnation of the Mirage comic, a ghostly figure - confirmed as the spirit of the Rat King - appears behind Splinter just before his sudden and mysterious death.FeaturesThe most distinguishing feature about the Rat King is that he wears some bandages over his body, including his face.VideogameRat King appears as the third boss in the Super NES version of TMNT: Turtles in Time. He is based on his 1987 cartoon incarnation, though he doesn't control any rats. Instead, he uses the Footski - a speedboat equipped with missiles and spiked buoys, which was also made into a toy for the Playmates action figure line. He is also the mid-boss in the Super NES version of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tournament Fighters, and also a secret playable character. Here he is based on the original comics designs, though he still doesn't use any rats to fight.[ Visit the complete Wikipedia entry for Rat King ] Some related entries: Empire | Barky Marky | Blackmail | I Love Trouble | Koushun Takami | October 1970 | St. Louis Blues | Professor Quirrell | Kamen Rider X | Être et avoir | Freeway II: Confessions of a Trickbaby This page is based on the copyrighted Wikipedia article Rat King; it is used under the GNU Free Documentation License.
