Rebirth of Mothra (モスラ - Mosura) is the first in a trilogy of kaiju eiga produced by Toho, in which Mothra saves the world from environment-threatening monsters. The so-called "Mothra Trilogy" marks a first for Toho: instead of later being incorporated into the Godzilla series, two daikaiju (Mothra and King Ghidorah, who had debuted in the Godzilla film Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster
) appear in spin-off films without Godzilla.

Plot

Mothra fights Death Ghidorah but falls at its power, as she was already at the end of her life cycle and was weakened from having laid an egg. Her offspring, Mothra Leo, who was unable to help its mother defeat Death Ghidorah while it was still a caterpillar, cocoons itself at the base of a magical tree and metamorphoses into imago form. At full strength, Leo confronts and easily defeats Death Ghidorah. After the defeat of the evil space demon, Mothra replaces Death Ghidorah's seal, then uses its magic to restore the destroyed forest.
