This article describes minor relatives of fictional character Harry Potter of the Harry Potter series. See James and Lily Potter for Harry's parents, Dursley family for Harry's adoptive parents.

Mr and Mrs Potter

Harry's paternal grandparents: as of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince not much has been revealed about them. However, the reader knows that they took care of Harry's godfather Sirius Black when he ran away from his home. They took him as a second son. It seems that they died sometime between 1976 and 1981. Mr Potter was presumably the "grandfather with knobbly knees" that Harry saw in the Mirror of Erised. According to JKR: "James's parents were elderly, were getting on a little when he was born, which explains the only child, very pampered, had-him-late-in-life-so-he's-an-extra-treasure, as often happens, I think. They were old in wizarding terms, and they died. They succumbed to a wizarding illness."

JKR has also said that Harry's considerable inherited fortune came via his father James from the Potters. In Rowling's newly submitted Black family tree, it is implied that two individuals, Charlus Potter and Dorea Black, could be these two, as it is stated that they had one son, making them possible extremely candidates for James's parents. Although they were born in the same generation as Sirius Black's grandparents, it is still possible for them to James' parents as Rowling said they were elderly (as stated above) when James was born. This would make Harry a female line descendant of the ancient House of Black.

If Charlus and Dorea Potter were Harry's grandparents, it is a little clearer to see how Harry might be genetically related to his godfather Sirius. Dorea Black was a granddaughter of Phineas Nigellus, Sirius's great-great-grandfather. This means that Dorea's brother or male cousin was Sirius's own grandfather. If Sirius's grandfather was Dorea's cousin, then Sirius and James Potter would be third cousins; if Sirius's grandfather and Dorea were siblings then Sirius and James would be second cousins. However, it is unlikely that Dorea was Harry's grandmother as it would have almost certainly been mentioned in the books by now. Such an important connection between two best friends, one of whom become his best friend's son's godfather, could not have been missed out. Sirius also did not point her out on the Black family tree, and he would have if she was Harry's grandmother (Dorea would not have been removed from the family tree as she made a respectable pureblood marriage to a pureblood Potter). Also, evidence that Dorea wasn't James's mother, was the fact that Sirius's Uncle Alphard was blasted off the tree for giving Sirius gold, so theoretically, Dorea would've blasted off as well for taking in Sirius.

The Potters were purebloods, and Harry is the last of their line. (Rowling has stated that he has no living relatives apart from the Dursleys).

Mr and Mrs Evans

Harry's maternal grandparents were Muggles, and so was their daughter Petunia. Their other daughter Lily turned out to be a witch. They were said to be "proud to have a witch in the family"; Petunia was bitter and jealous. Mr and Mrs Evans have never appeared in the novels except for the Mirror of Erised scene in The Philosopher's Stone. Harry claims he saw eyes like his. We know Harry has his mother's bright green eyes as well as their almond shape, so the other people with similar eyes were clearly Evanses.

The Dursleys

Harry's aunt Petunia married a Muggle named Vernon Dursley presumably around the same time Lily and James got married, as their son Dudley is the same age as Harry. The Dursleys live in the Surrey town of Little Whinging and are mortally afraid of Harry's magical abilities - and despise him. Although the Dursleys outwardly seem to be a respectable, upper middle class family, they treat Harry with disrespect and intense dislike and, when he was younger, physical and emotional abuse. They have been Harry's reluctant guardians since he was a year old, although Harry will leave the Dursleys forever when he turns seventeen. Vernon's sister Marge Dursley (not to be confused with Marge Simpson), a dog breeder, sometimes visited Vernon and Petunia, and used to terrorise Harry (these visits seem to have ended since Harry inflated her to a massive size when he was thirteen).

Mark Evans

NOT actually a relative of Harry: Mark Evans is mentioned in the first chapter of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix:

"So who've you been beating up tonight?" Harry asked , his grin fading. "Another ten-year old? I know you did Mark Evans two nights ago."
