Resident Evil: Extinction (previously known as Resident Evil: Afterlife) is the sequel to Resident Evil: Apocalypse
from Screen Gems. The film will be produced by Paul Anderson with filming expected to begin in Mexico on May 2006. It is unknown whether the events of Extinction will lead to Japan where Resident Evil 4
will be set. The release date hasn't been set yet but it is currently scheduled for a 2007 release.

in Mexicali, Baja California and Norte Mexico in May 2006 (after being pushed back from November 05 > March 06 > April 06 > May 06). The film's budget will be $45,000,000 (estimated).

  • March 25, 2006 - New cast members have now been offically added to the Resident Evil: Extinction IMDB profile the following added was Mike Epps, Oded Fehr & Iain Glen.
  • March 9, 2006 - According To Bloody Disgusting.com, former WWE Superstar Debra Marshall
    has been confirmed to appear as Cindy Lennox.
  • March 26, 2006 - According to Aintitcoolnew.com, Ben Affleck will play Albert Wesker
  • March 8, 2006 - Oded Fehr
    and Iain Glen
    have been added to the cast to reprise their respective roles for the second sequel according to Production Weekly.com. However, Sienna Guillory
    has NOT officially confirmed to reprise her role as Jill Valentine despite what Imdb has posted under Resident Evil: Extinction. It is official, filming will now commence in mid-May 2006 in Mexicali, Mexico
  • March 6, 2006 - Debra Marshall
    (speculation) is said to star in Extinction as Cindy Lennox. Coming Soon reports that the film will now be shot in May 2006 but only in Australia and not Toronto.
  • March 4, 2006 - According to an article in Sci Fi Wire, Extinction will now be shoot in Toronto in May 2006. The director is now said to be Paul W. S. Anderson. Minor details have been revealed about Milla's character Alice that she will have more action and telekenetic powers.
  • March 1, 2006 - During an interview on the late night talk show Last Call, Milla Jovovich revealed that the filming would begin in May, 2006
  • February 18, 2006 - IMDB updates its Extinction page with an update of the filming status. Filming is now set for April and not March
  • February 9, 2006 - Comingsoon.net reports that the third film will be called Resident Evil: Extinction. It will be directed by Russell Mulcahy and Milla Jovovich will in fact be back to reprise her role as Alice. It is unclear whether this film will follow the Resident Evil: Afterlife story written by Paul W.S. Anderson. It is also unclear whether or not the fourth film will take place as well. Production will begin in 2006.
  • February 4, 2006 - Movies Online received an update on the status of the movie. The movie is now rumored to be shot in Mexico not Australia. It is also rumored (but not confrmed) that Milla
    will not be reprising her role as Alice due to scheduling conflicts. A new Canadian actress Hailey Birnie will be introduced alongside Chris Redfield.

  • November 18, 2005 - According to Milla's official site the release date has been changed from 2006 to 2007. Principle Photography will commence in March 2006.

  • September 21, 2005 - According to Empire magazine, Sienna Guillory
    is signed on for Afterlife and willingly wants to do it.

  • September 14, 2005 - Some sources indicate filming may be delayed till at least March 2006. The director and remaining cast members are to be chosen in the upcoming weeks.

    signed onto Afterlife. In an interview with Blackfilm.com he confirmed his character will return for Afterlife.
  • September 7, 2005 - The countdown begins. Cast yet haven't been selected but may be chosen in a couple of days or weeks.
  • June 13, 2005 - Afterlife was set to pre-production on IMDB with Jovovich signing on. The film budget is yet unknown but filming is set for November in Australia and concludes in February 2006.
  • June 13, 2005 - Confirmation of two more Resident Evil sequels and details of Afterlife set for production in November 2005.
  • December 28, 2004 - Apocalypse went on sale and more details of a sequel went online. Producer Paul Anderson signing on to write the script.
  • September 15, 2004 - Studio executives greenlit the project after success at the box office with Apocalypse in North America.
