| Robin Hood is an animated film produced by the Walt Disney Studios, first released in the United States on November 8, 1973. It is the twenty-first animated feature in the Disney animated features canon. The film recounts the traditional stories of Robin Hood with the characters cast as anthropomorphic animals. Although a lot of the characters have British accents, most of them have accents and mannerisms more associated with the rural southern United States rather than England. The sound track also has a heavy southern tone. The film features many original songs, including "Whistle Stop" by Roger Miller. The song was sampled and the pitch increased for use on The Hampster Dance website. This sample was later used as the basis for the song "Irritating Hamster" by the artist , and later by the Cuban Boys as part of their song Cognoscenti Vs. Intelligentsia. The film is very popular with the furry fandom, with its characters being the design inspiration for furry characters. Box officeRobin Hood was very successful upon its initial release, garnering around $9.5 million, the biggest Disney attraction at that time. Its 1982 re-release brought in even more income.Release infoIt saw its theatrical release in 1973 and again in 1982. The film came to videocassette in 1985, 1991(these two releases were in Disney's Classics collection), 1996, 1999 (these two were in the Masterpiece Collection) and 2000 and has sold reasonably well.In 2000, it was also released into DVD for the Disney Gold Classic Collection, on Disney DVD. TriviaOn the dance scene, there is animation reused from The Jungle Book, The Aristocats, and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. In particular, the section where Little John and Lady Kluck dance together almost exactly mirrors part of the song I Wanna Be Like You from The Jungle Book with Baloo and King Louie in the respective roles.Characters[ Visit the complete Wikipedia entry for Robin Hood (1973 film) ] Some related entries: Lethal Weapon 2 | The Last Supper | Robert Hiltzik | Ernest Dickerson | List of Disney animated features | David Solomon | State of Grace | Hospital | L'homme du train | Private Parts | Burton Gillett This page is based on the copyrighted Wikipedia article Robin Hood (1973 film); it is used under the GNU Free Documentation License.
