Plot

Chan plays a detective inspector Lee, who has been sent to America from Hong Kong to investigate the kidnapping of Chinese consul Han's daughter, Soo Young. However, the FBI (who are working on the case themselves) do not want an outsider like Lee to interfere with their investigation so they palm him off with LAPD detective, James Carter (played by Tucker); a fast talking and comically arrogant police officer. When Lee and Carter find out that they're being used, they set out to solve the case themselves.

Trivia

  • Though credited as story creator and co-screenwriter, Ross LaManna's original Rush Hour spec script bears almost no relation to the final film. His story was about an FBI agent and his hostage negotiator wife who team up to search for a mad bomber.
