Samuel Bayer is a music video director. He best known for directing the music video of Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and all the music videos from Green Day's American Idiot album. He became a popular director during the alternative rock era and was noted for producing aesthetically raw videos, often marked with scratches and burns on the film.

Bayer claims that the reason he was chosen to direct "Smells Like Teen Spirit" was because his test reel was so bad.
